A Greer minister, the late Reverend Johnny Stack, and a committee of concerned citizens, with assistance from the Greenville County Council for Aging, founded Greer Community Ministries in 1972 to establish a Meals on Wheels program in Greer. The first meals were delivered to 25 seniors in 1973. The Senior Dining, Food Pantry and Clothing Closet programs were added between 1973-1984.

Our programs are vital because without intervention, citizens will continue to face malnutrition, declining health, and hospitalization. Some will be forced from their own homes into nursing care facilities. Many will be able to continue living at home if only they obtain life's most basic of human needs - food. |

There are countless individuals who suffer from hunger daily. When facing financial struggles, many individuals have to make difficult choices between buying food or paying for other necessities such as utilities, housing, or medical care. Many senior adults suffer from chronic illnesses, including depression (occurring in one out of eight other adults) that can limit their mobility or cause changes in appetite, digestion, and well being. For these reasons, Greer Community ministries was created to ensure that citizens in need would be taken care of to the best of the community's ability. |

Greer Community Ministries is funded through the support from individuals, businesses, churches, civic groups, and Sunday School circles and classes. We also depend on fundraising events held throughout the year to support our efforts, along with funding from grants. Greer Community Ministries receives no funds from the United Way except for those designated by individuals for Greer Community Ministries. |

| Greer Community Ministries believes that the pursuit of funding within the Greer community heightens the community's awareness of the organization, builds strong bonds of service and fellowship within the community, and enhances the thought that all are brothers and sisters, and should take care of each other. |
